About Department

---

The Mechanical Engineering Department at CSMSS is one of the reputed department in terms of facility, faculty, students, and activities. It continues to lead and expand its activities in various directions. The Department is known for the Expertise and State-of-the-art facilities especially in CAD designing, Manufacturing and Production Technology, Energy Conversion, I. C. Engines, Mechatronics and also in other core areas. Industry interaction has been increased with industrial visits, arranging expert lectures by industry personnel and carrying out the industry sponsored projects for students. The students actively involved in various reputed contests of national and international repute like ROBOCON, e-yantra, Tech Fest, etc. and development of smart agriculture equipment and technical competitions. The department credited with number of Winner titles in the given competitions. The department does conduct guiding sessions and mock tests for students for exams like GATE, GRE etc. The placement cell also facilitates the students for getting training in industries. Good number of Short Term Training Programmes, Workshops and Seminars are also organized for teachers for sharing and updating the technical knowledge.

Department is having exclusive full working lab for agriculture equipment development. Since last two years our team is working on design and development of Multipurpose Onion Harvester. Last year our team received Best Productivity Award in SAE TIFAN 2019 competition held at Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. Another teams of students are working on design and development of racing vehicles, under the banner of SAE BAJA. Students have the opportunity to work on M-BAJA, E-BAJA, Go Carting vehicles, etc. This section bagged various award in different national competitions.

To promote research and consultancy related activities our Institute has exclusive Innovation cell and CTSE department. Department received grants more than 5 lacs so far for various research projects from government and non-government agencies. The institute helps and motivates faculties and students to publish their research work in reputed journals and conferences and also to file patents on the basis of their research work. Department have started incubation center for transfer of knowledge to actual practices.

The program of Post graduation in Automation and Robotics is started from A.Y. 2021-22 with intake capacity of 12. This program is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Affiliated to the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, Maharashtra. The program of automation and Robotics is designed to meet the growing demand for trained engineers in the field of industrial Automation and Robotics. The design of a robotic system puts together principles of mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, electrical/electronics Engineering, and Computer engineering. A Postgraduate degree in Automation and Robotics specialization will enable students to serve the Industry requirement for implementation of new and smart technologies covering methods of synthesis, analysis and optimization of newer robots and mechanisms. The graduate of this course will find ample opportunities to work as Robot design engineer, robot programmers, robotics system engineer, Automation engineer, system integrator etc. in the field of industrial automation, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, aerospace, healthcare and defense. Separate laboratories like Robotics Lab, Automation Lab, Computer Aided Manufacturing Lab, Additive manufacturing Lab etc. are available for the Programme.

All stakeholders from management, faculties, supporting staff and student are taking efforts toward excellence and trying to achieve 360 degree holistic development and growth of students.

At present the department is Well Equipped with all laboratories & Our department features state-of-the-art infrastructure including well-developed laboratories for core courses like Fluid Mechanics & Machinery, Industrial Fluid Power, Thermal Engineering, Power Engineering, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, etc. It also features a full-fledged workshop to enhance students’ knowledge and hands-on skills related to manufacturing. Students can learn modern software related to drafting, modelling and analysis, which are nowadays a pre-requisite in industry through our CAD laboratory.

Our dedicated faculty, graduated from renowned universities readily motivates students by involving them in research and Industry projects. Students are encouraged to publish Research Papers under the guidance of faculty, which helps them to acquire admission in reputed universities for Master’s program

Students are trained in developing their leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills by involving them in organizing various activities under Mechanical Engineering Student’s Association (MESA), and active participation under Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) BAJA & TIFAN.
